Creating Smart Neighborhoods: Insights from Two Low-Carbon Communities in Sheffield and Leeds, United Kingdom, 2015, Paul Connell & Martine Tommis , Journal of Urban Technology, 22:2, 19-41

This paper presents the design and implementation of a state-of-the-art ICT system to facilitate energy efficiency in two residential developments in Leeds and Sheffield (UK). Reflexive design practice understands end users as active agents in service design and the energy-efficiency agenda—underpinned by a new energy paradigm based on better information. The paper also demonstrates how ICTs can facilitate community-based energy governance, and the social embedding of energy efficiency and future innovation.

Community Digital Champions

The Community Digital Champions program provides opportunities for volunteers to share their experiences and encourage others in the community to explore the benefits digital technologies can bring to their lives. Check here for nomination dates.

Twenty seven champions were selected during round 1 of the 2018 Community Digital Champions.

The 27 champions work in varied areas including teaching, community services, agriculture, tourism, media arts, small business, and not-for-profit.

The champs span a number of Queensland regions including the Gold Coast, Logan, Brisbane, West Moreton, Mackay, Gladstone, Central West Queensland, North and Far North Queensland.

Digital Scorecard

The Digital Scorecard is designed to help businesses identify ways to improve their digital capability and become more competitive in today’s global digital economy.

Small to medium enterprises and not-for-profits can use the scorecard to find out how digitally aware and capable they are compared with others in similar industries.

Investment in digital education is helping to reshape how students learn and even what they learn through powerful 21st Century tools. Schools must be encouraged to see the opportunities that such tools provide to support improving learning and teaching.

National Digital Learning Resources Network

NDLRN is a technical infrastructure that connects Australian schools to enable the distribution and sharing of digital resources through education portals. The Network is the outcome of initiatives of the Australian Government and the state and territory governments.

The digital student resources and teacher support materials are aligned to the Australian, state and territory curriculums and are available through state and territory education portals and the national portal, Scootle. All resources are provided free of charge to all Australian teachers and students.
