Nutrient management
Helpful resources

Reducing synthetic fertiliser use on irrigated cotton while maintaining or increasing yield, or by increasing yield without a proportional increase in fertiliser use, Clean Energy Regulator

Methodology to claim earn Australian carbon credit units (ACCUs) for emissions reductions that can be sold to generate income to the government tor in the secondary market, legislation, tools & resources

e.g. changes in the rate, timing, method and type of nitrogen fertiliser application

The National Agricultural Manure Management Program

NAMMP research projects include addressing increasing soil carbon using livestock manure. These projects include the quantification of emission sources within the context of developing mitigation strategies and Carbon farming Initiative (CFI) methodologies.

Mitigating the Greenhouse Gas Potential of Australian Soils Amended with Livestock Manure, Australian Pork

Advancing Livestock Waste as Low Emission – High Efficiency Fertilisers , Australian Pork

Composting as a Means of Minimising the GHG Emissions from the Manure Supply Chain, Pork Australia

Case studies

Less can be more when it comes to nitrogen ‘Leighview’, VIC and ‘The Cap’, VIC, Young Carbon Farmers

Applying nitrogen at the rates calculated by the Southern Farming Systems (SFS) researchers improved yield statistically in 70 per cent of paddocks in the trial. Split applications can improve nitrogen use efficiency. Uncalibrated spreaders can reduce paddock yields by up to 13 per cent.

Investigating carbon farming in the Macquarie, CottonInfo

This case study focuses on Macquarie River Food and Fibre, who worked with CottonInfo to investigate opportunities for cotton growers under the Emissions Reduction Fund (particularly the ‘Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Fertiliser in Irrigated Cotton’ method).
