Mareeba farmer reduce energy cost by downsizing pumps

A citrus and avocado farm in Mareeba reduced pumping costs by downgrading the pump size from 45kW to 18kW as friction was causing considerable losses from pumping water uphill. Reducing the size of the pump and installing a variable speed drive significantly reduced the friction losses saving $3,200 per year with a payback period of around 4 years. A 16kW solar power system on the packing shed increased savings by $6,000 with a 3 year payback. Click here for more information.
